Our weather men and women forecast snow for the weekend. Excitement reached fever pitch in this house as the girls had coats, scarves, gloves and wellies at the ready. We fell asleep on Friday night, fingers crossed for snow, even if only for a few hours.
But snow is a very rare occurrence in this part of the country – I think we are too close to the coast. Even in the very bad winters of 2010/2011 when the rest of the county was covered in snow, we only got a few flakes that melted and froze almost immediately to a nice slippery finish.
Unfortunately, the snow didn’t reach us this week either.
The girls were very disappointed, as was I. In my head I had already taken lots of seasonal snow photos with my camera.
Not only did we not get snow, we got more rain to make sure everything was even more wet and soggy!
Not to be outdone, I ventured into the back garden with my camera, between rain showers, and guess what I discovered? Who needs snow? Its overrated.
Spring has sprung! Woo hoo!!

Wow! Right now it’s snowing sideways outside my window. I couldn’t see the neighbor’s house for a few minutes this morning, and it’s only a few hundred feet away! We have the opposite problem; we live close to Lake Michigan. Lots of extra snow gets dumped on us. Enjoy those buds!
I’ve never been in snow like that. I can’t even begin to imagine what its like!
Sleet, sleet, sleet. Grey. Cold. Yuk. I think I’d rather have proper snow
Not even any spring to cheer us up.
Oh yeah, I think rain is preferable to sleet. Sleet is the worst of both worlds.
I wish we didn’t have snow. Much prefer to see everything without it being covered in slush. Beautiful photographs.
Ah well we are just dreaming of nice white fluffy snow, not the not so nice snow that goes with it.
You’ve found lovely signs of spring.
No snow here either – we too are too close to the coast.
envy is the word which crosses my mind….. here it is 10F and fees like -9F wih the wind.. i’m not certain of the conversion, but it is cold. The good part, if there is one, and I’m trying to be positive, is that it is sunny!. However, it is still January and there is more winter to come….have a great day and I hope it continues!
We may have more winter to come too. But not as severe as yours though. I envy you the sun though – we dont see that very often at this time of year.
I didn’t realize snow is rare for you. Your not-so-snowy pictures are beautiful!
Glad you like them!
The spider web is so cool!!! Where’s Peter Parker?
By the way, my blog moved. Here is the new address: http://larrydbernstein.com/me-myself-and-kids/
Great new look to your blog. The header looks great!
Lovely photos, but it is a bit early even for Ireland!
Very true. Those few brave little buds that have appeared might be sorry if we get a really bad cold snap!
They definitely will if they break out here! Winter is not close to being over. We are still getting freezing temps at night which will help. It was really warm today and I stayed in my writing cave. It may as well be 30 below!
Beautiful photos
Oh wow! I have been missing the snow in New York also, for the most part. Can’t wait till Spring finds its way over here too
I’ve heard its been very cold in NY this year. No snow? We’ll all have to hope for early spring.
Last week was soo cold. We finally got a little snow on Fridays but within hours it was slushy and gross. Can’t have it all, I guess.
How exciting is it when you spy those first spring shoots. I remember at the end of our last winter I was checking the trees everyday for a hint, hoping that each morning I would catch a glimpse of Spring. BTW Happy New Year hun xx
Happy new year to you too Sonia! Thanks for stopping by.
The first signs, ellie: you fill me with hope…
Apologies: Ellie!
Beautiful photos, Ellie!
Thanks Lois.
Great photos!
I have not seen snow in 6 years so I kind of miss it but only a little! Great photos and wish I could visit Ireland! There are direct flights from Dubai everyday!
Hi Grace, sorry your comment was caught in the spam folder for a bit! You’ll have to visit Ireland, summertime is best – so you don’t freeze!!
