I was delighted and excited last week when I discovered Lois of The Root Systems had nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. My first ever nomination! My blog is very new, and I am still unsure of where it is headed and sometimes I am not sure if what I write is even interesting. So it is lovely to have someone validate my ramblings with a nomination. And from what I can see, these type of awards are great networking points, where we can all make a few friends and maybe gain a new follower or two.
Now, according to their website, the rules to the Versatile Blogger Award go like this:
- Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy.
- Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy — if you can figure out how to do it.
- Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly. ( I would add, pick blogs or bloggers that are excellent!)
- Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award — you might include a link to this site.
- Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.
So firstly, a huge thank you to Lois. You were my very first follower and I love reading your blog. I look forward to reading more of it too. Lois’ blog is called The Root Systems and she covers lots of topics mostly with a historical theme: past and current events, immigration, migration, politics, identity, genealogy and travel. Go over and take a look – its a great blog.
My 15 nominations – which I hope you will visit – for the Versatile Blogger Award are as follows (in no particular order):
1. Bye Bye Birdie’s Sew Latte Dough blog
7. Oh My Gawd Just Do What I Say
10. Three Years One Stone Then Home
11. Room To Whistle
12. A Sunny Home
14. Barely Poppins
15. Knackered Mothers Wine Club
I’ve tried to pick blogs who haven’t received the nomination before. Apologies to any of you who have already had this award. And of course all my nominees are free to ignore my nomination if they don’t do awards.
And now to tell Lois and the rest of you seven random things about myself:
1. I am a natural redhead. A curly one at that.
2. I hated my red curly hair when I was growing up. I love it now.
3. I always wanted to be a writer – probably of children’s books but maybe adults too. I thought I might be the next Enid Blyton but now I think I should aim to be the next J K Rowling. Does anyone read Enid Blyton anymore?!
4. I always have to have the radio or music on in the background. Maybe thats to do with growing up in a busy noisy house. Its just not right when things are quiet.
5. I am pretty good at sewing and baking. I don’t do much sewing now due to lack of time but I always bake.
6. I am a huge fan of “The Good Wife”. Its great to see Juliana Margulies playing such a strong character. But as I don’t always have time to watch TV, I have LOTS of episodes to catch up on and I think I may be clogging up most of the memory on our TV recorder!!
7. I love genealogy and can spend hours going through old family records trying to piece things together. Someday I hope to have enough time to do a proper investigation into my family tree.

Wow! Thank you – I’m honored to receive this award!
I like to have the TV on in the background!
You’re welcome. I sometimes have the TV on too, but usually the kids dictate the programmes!!
Congrats on your award!
Thank you!
I really enjoy your blog …Keep it up! And thank u for nominating me!
You’re very welcome. I look forward to reading more of yours too.
Congratulations!!!
oh, and I’m a natural redhead also. hated it growing up. loved it as an adult. now it’s changing! boo hoo!!! and I’ve added lots of new blogs, thanks!!
I’m lucky so far, its only fading slightly in colour…none of the dreaded greys yet! Now how long to you think it would take me to like grey hair?!
haha. A long time!!! I hide my greys!!
It’s well deserved, Ellie! I always look forward to your posts!
Thank you Lois. Very kind as always.
Congratulations and thank you so much. I feel honored to have made a new friend across the ocean. Now I’m going to have to figure out how to a whole bunch of things (links, pictures, etc) that I’m not sure I know how to do. Thanks for that too! I gotta get this bloghouse in order.
Thank you and you’re welcome. Yes the selecting and linking takes a while but its worth it!!
Congratulations and thank you for nominating me. I’m glad you’re at peace with your hair. It took be just under 20 years to embrace my natural colour but now I spend a lot less money and a lot less time at the hairdressers.
You’re welcome. Its definitely a good think to learn to love what you got in terms of your hair. At least it helps anyway – and I’m sure the hairdressers prefer it that way too. Not sure any hairdresser would want to see me coming in looking for blonde straight hair!
Congratulations to you!! And thanks for the nomination! My daughter is planning on coloring her hair red when she grows up (it’s blonde now) so that she can look like Ariel on The Little Mermaid. I, on the other hand, loved my brown hair growing up but now highlight it because I’ve decided it’s too brown. Go figure.
Well a little colouring here and there never hurts and keeps things exciting. I might just tell my kids I am the grown up version of Ariel the next time they mention my hair!
Congrats-you deserve it – love your blog.
And I certainly enjoy yours. This is a great way of sharing.
Congratulations to you! And thanks for passing it on to me
I wish I had more time to sew too.
You’re very welcome!
First of all, what you write IS interesting, I assure you. And thanks for all the blog suggestions. I look forward to looking them all up.
Thanks Jessie. I suppose we all have moments of self doubt! Glad you like my blog.

Thank You mama! My ‘Almost’ Irish eyes are smiling!
You’re very welcome. I’m still smiling over your post about the bear!! So thank you for that.
Thanks so much! This is pretty cool. And I completely understand about family genealogy, it’s an obsession of my own!
Thanks Camie. Looking forward to hearing more about your life as an ex-pat.
Enid Blyton is still going strong in my household, with that whole vibe of cheeky grins, egg sandwiches, and baddies behind the bushes, but never bad, bad baddies.
My kids are Enid fans too but I think that may have been me pushing…sorry SUGGESTING they try the books!!
We even tried Ginger Beer recently (spotted it in Tesco in Ennis). Can’t recommend it. What was Ms Blyton thinking?! Its rotten stuff!!
Congrats. Well deserved.
Thank you. Loved your recent post on your son swearing. I’ve been through that too – they always do it when it can’t be mis-heard or misunderstood!!
Thank you so much hun – what a gorgeous surprise and a fabulous new list of blogs for me to check out.i LOVE getting to know a little more about you. I am so envious of your curly red hair – I would kill for that, and yup my kids are Enid Fans as was I at their age. Hey have you created a Facebook page for your blog??? xxx Son
No I haven’t created a facebook page yet. I need to do it soon. Its on the list!
By the way, I have voted for you in your real life Kidspot nomination – good luck!
